Summary
The fusion internship grant will provide £4,500 per UK undergraduate intern to support host organisations in providing 8-week UK-based summer internship in work related to fusion. Each internship project may include up to three interns, giving a maximum project value of £13,500.
A host organisation may submit one application per internship project. Each project can involve up to three interns.
A host organisation can submit more than one application up to a maximum of five, provided they relate to different projects.
A supervisor may be named on only one application, where they can supervise up to three interns within that project.
The maximum duration of the award is 8 weeks. Host organisations will be responsible for intern recruitment and onboarding. They are encouraged to consider widening participation and EDI as part of the recruitment and selection process.
Interns will be required to produce a poster detailing their project, learning and experience at the end of the scheme. These will be presented at a showcase event in September 2026 at UK Atomic Energy Authority, Culham.
The grant will be paid to the host organisation in arrears upon receipt of the poster, confirmation of internship completion, and evidence of payment to the student. It is expected the host organisation will pay the intern in timely intervals throughout the internship.
