DHSC Community Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Fund
Organisations across England are being invited to bid for a share of £1 million of government funding to buy life-saving defibrillators for community spaces like town halls, local parks or post offices. Summary
The government is inviting community organisations to bid for funding for an automated external debrillator (AED) for their area.
£1 million fund to increase the number of AED's in public places where they are most needed.
Funding will provide an estimated 2000 new defibrillators in community spaces accross England.
Organisations accross England are invited to bid for a share of £1 million of government funding to buy life-saving defibrillators for community spaces like town halls, local parks or post offices.The DHSC Community Automated External Defibrillator (AED) fund will support provision of 2000 AED's. These will be distributed across England during 2023-2024, supporting any organisation based in England that is not eligible for the current Department of Education AED programme.The funding for the scheme is based on a first come first served basis.The funding will be allocated on the following basis:
100 applications will be selected by DHSC to receive a fully funded AED - selection is based on areas that are most in need of AED throughout England. Applicants will be advised in mid October and units shipped in mid November.
1900 applications will receive partial DHSC funding for an AED - organisations will be required to provide their own match funding of c.£750.

Eligibility
To qualify you must:
Be based in England
Not be an organisation that is eligible for the Department of Education scheme e.g. a school
To be eligible for a funded defibrillator you must also:
Locate the secure defibrillator cabinet outside in an area that is accessible to members of the public 24 hours per day.
Be able to provide an electrical power source to ensure the defibrillator cabinet light and heater operate to keep the device at the right temperature.
Provide match funding for your applicatio (c. £750). DHSC will select 100 applications that will be fully funded based on the areas most in need which will be announced in mid October 2023.
Objectives
The funding is part of the government's drive to equip the health system with the right technology to ease pressures, reduce backlogs, cut waiting lists, and to improve public access to care when they need it.
The AED fund will seek to prioritise distribution of AED's to the areas that most need devices within the UK. As part of the grant award, applicants will be asked to demonstrate that defibrillators will be placed in areas where they are most needed such as places with high footfall, vulnerable people, rural areas or due to the nature of activity at the site.
Examples could include town halls, community centres, local shops, post offices and local parks, to ensure that defibrialltors are evenly spread throughout communities and easily accessible if someone is experiencing an unexpected caridiac arrest.
