Commissioned Rehabilitative Services General Grant Scheme for support for people with shared protected characteristics or shared experiences or to promote rehabilitation and desistance to support the aims of Her Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) to protect the public and reduce reoffending. This includes the aims to improve people’s engagement in, and experience of, probation and other rehabilitative activities; to support an individual’s rehabilitation and desistance journey; and to improve HMPPS’ knowledge of which activities work to support people and to encourage rehabilitation and desistance.

Summary

England and Wales are divided into 12 probation regions. Each of these regions has access to a budget per financial year that can be used to commission rehabilitative services. This includes services for those with protected characteristics or with shared experiences, or services that promote rehabilitation and desistance through grant awards. A grant scheme has been approved which will enable HMPPS to award multiple competed general grants across the probation regions. Eligibility

All non-profit making organisations may register an interest in probation services grants. You will be required to provide some basic contact details, including the legal structure of your organisation, plus declare any organisational convictions/offences.

Objectives

The objectives of the scheme is to achieve the following:

  • to improve people’s engagement in, and experience of, probation and other rehabilitative activities;

  • to support an individual’s rehabilitation and desistance journey; and

  • to improve HMPPS’ knowledge of which activities work to support people and to encourage rehabilitation and desistance

Dates

The first competed application process will be for grant awards across multiple probation regions. The grants awards will be to achieve the above objectives for people from ethnic minority groups. This process will be open on 24th August 2022. This date is indicative and any changes to this date will be communicated via the grants portal.
