Summary

Information about how to apply for funding to help farmers and land managers make environmental improvements on farms, woodlands and other rural land in England. This can include protecting habitats, improving air and water quality, and tree planting.

Capital Grants can be standalone, or used to support and complement the following: 

  • Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) agreements

  • Countryside Stewardship (CS) Higher Tier (last agreements issued 1 January 2024)

  • CS Mid Tier and Wildlife Offers (last agreements issued 1 January 2024)

  • CS Higher Tier (CSHT) agreements starting from 2025

  • Environmental Stewardship (ES) Higher Level Stewardship agreements

Objectives

The grant provides funding to help farmers install infrastructure that improves the environment on farms, woodlands and other rural land. The funding supports practical improvements that deliver long-term benefits for people and the environment. This includes reducing pollution for water run-off and emissions and helping manage flood risk. The grant aims to:

·         improve water quality

·         improve air quality

·         introduce natural flood management systems

·         increase biodiversity

·         restore and create hedgerows, boundaries and orchards

Dates

The grant opens on 30 July 2026.The grant offer will automatically close once all funding is allocated.

Apply for Capital Grants online in the Rural Payments Service.

·         Sign in with your Rural Payments customer reference number and password

·         Start a Capital Grant application
