Summary

The #iwill Fund is an England wide joint investment. The original funding involved bringing together £40 million in funding from the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport and The National Lottery Community Fund to create a central investment pot. The #iwill Fund was extended in 2020/21 and 2021/22 to create a total investment of £54 million.

In July 2022, DCMS and TNLCF announced additional funding of £12 million to create thousands of new youth social action opportunities for young people.

Eligibility

If you are a funder who would like to work in partnership with the #iwill Fund (as a Match Funder) or would like further information on the #iwill Fund please get in touch with either Helen Whyman, Head of Funding (#iwill Fund) helen.whyman@tnlcommunityfund.org.uk or Jolanta Astle, #iwill Fund Manager jolanta.astle@tnlcommunityfund.org.uk

If you are looking for grant funding for direct delivery, rather than investing as a Match Funder, you will need to apply directly to one of the #iwill Fund Match Funders. Each Match Funder will have different approaches to awarding funding.

Objectives

The #iwill Fund Purpose Statement

  • An increase in the opportunities for young people to take part in high quality youth social action opportunities across the country, from all backgrounds and areas.

  • The creation of a learning environment where organisations, funders and young people can share evidence on what has worked, as well as initiatives that have not been as successful, ensuring that funding helps to grow organisational knowledge across delivery partners.

  • Increased investment in youth social action programmes from funders working collaboratively, ensuring less duplication, and providing investment where it is really needed.

  • A natural pathway for social action engagement will be created for 10-20 year olds to develop their skills and their capacity to significantly contribute to their community. This will be done by aligning #iwill Fund to other opportunities within communities to ensure smooth signposting and navigation for young people to continue their social action journey.

The five drivers that underpin our investment are:

  • Creating high quality youth social action opportunities

  • Focus on creating a habit for life

  • Reaching young people who have not previously undertaken sustained youth social action

  • Focus on sustainability of delivery and sustainability of the youth social action for the young person

  • Having a youth voice within the funder / delivery organisations and the project itself.

Dates

The #iWill Fund has a rolling application window.

How to apply

We expect to make grants of between £500,000 and £1 million. However, we will consider proposals above this amount if we consider them exceptional (and there are sufficient remaining funds).

If a prospective Match Funder wishes to apply for an amount above £1 million, then this must be initially agreed through the #iwill Fund Team at the Expression of Interest stage before a full proposal is submitted. Please note, an agreement to let a Match Funder submit a proposal above £1 million does not in any way guarantee that the full proposal would be successful.
